A lot of good points. But might Prebble be right about the possibility of a switch in the Tamaki Makaurau result, if a petition were mounted? And that does affect the size of Parliament.

Absolutely. It is possible that that single electorate of the five he mentions as likely going the other way if properly counted could actually change the size of Parliament, but even if it did, his conclusion that National + ACT could govern alone is still mistaken. ACT has 11 MPs, National 48, and 49 once the Port Waikato by-election happens. That's not nearly enough in a 122 MP Parliament. It wouldn't even be enough in a 120 MP Parliament.

I really do think that what Prebble has done is extrapolated from a memory of the Creech v Boorman case and forgotten or ignored all of the changes that have happened since then.
